The fourth edition of Mirror - Face to face exhibition offers a selection of artworks by Italian and foreign artists to the public, continuing to sound the depths of contemporary graphic art in its distinctive comparative formula that aims at recognizing the other in ourselves and vice versa.
The previous three exhibitions have associated artists from Macedonia, Estonia and Chile to our Italian artists. This time is Portugal and Italy that look into each other’s eyes.

Way beyond the idea, somehow romantic and stereotyped, of being on the Neo-Latin European edge, suspended in a fascinating decadence and in a nostalgic mood for an unrepeatable past of seafaring adventures (that for some time have been calling queues of Italian retired people and not only), Portugal is a stone raft drifting from worlds and cultures, Africa and South America, the imaginary of the oceanic infinity, rejected-attracted by the European courtyard as in the Saramago’s fable. The small and the infinitely large, fatalism and desire, dream and reality, cross-bred identity and suffered subordination, all coexist without offsetting each other in the culture and in the art of a country whose contribution and inspiration are extremely needed in this Europe that steps more and more in its selfishness.
Portuguese scenery is extremely varied also in the graphic art world, open to heterogeneous influences, port for vital inserts. Douro Biennial International (most influential exhibition in the Country and among the world’s largest ones) is a precious opportunity for an international comparison as well as a communitarian cultural festival.
About sixty artists have been invited in Villa Caldogno (Italy) and Douro Museum (Portugal) to show a piece of their engraving art to an international public in order to compare visions, themes and their different techniques and to witness how inspiration crosses time and places.
A mirror is a gateway between imaginary and real world. A comparison between eyes and gaze, outward appearance and inner reality; a fluctuation between the act of seeing (reflecting) and understanding (making the other reflect). It reveals what is beyond the figurative dimension represented in the image, expanding space and offering different perceptional possibilities to the observer.
The exhibition is curated by Valeria Bertesina, project leader (also curator of Biennal Di Carta/Papermade, International Paper Artworks Biennal, Schio, Vicenza) and Nuno Canelas (Director and Curator of International Douro Biennal) who are in charge, respectively, of the Italian and Portuguese artists selection.

The Vicenza Club for Unesco and the organisation of Duoro Museum, supported by other Authorities and Institutions, first of all Qu.Bi Gallery Vicenza and the Liceo Artistico Statale A. Canova, are the organizational reference for Italy and Portugal, respectively.

Mirror - Face to face aims to encourage an artistic dialogue and promote cultural diversity as the common heritage of humanity and as the precondition for peace and social harmony, which should be cherished and preserved for the benefit of all.

An exhibition hall will be dedicated to MiniPrint Exchange and some students from Liceo Artistico Statale A. Canova will take part in it.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue edited by Nerocromo, Caosfera Edizioni.
